How then do you go about deciding on the subject of your work? One very easy and effective means is to go through previous research work in the field. This gives you the basic concept of what type of work is considered acceptable. In any event you will need to go through the literature available in your field in the course of your research, so this exercise is of double value to you. The list of topics is your base material. Now all you have to do is to decide if you want to extend the scope and area of one of these topics, or to explore some related field.

Another method is to begin with an idea that you have and through extensive reading ascertain whether that idea can be worked on. In the course of your reading you are sure to hit upon a concrete concept that needs to be studied in details. The central notion that you started with could very well be revised altered or even totally changed but the concept will be one that will be worth working on. This central concept is the pivot of your research. It is the focal point of all your reading and writing tasks. You will ultimately build your thesis round this central concept but you will not necessarily stick too rigidly to it alone. A thesis is a detailed account of all aspects, negative or positive, that involve the topic that you have chosen.

In developing your topic, you need to be passionate about it. The best thesis writing often starts with a question that has bothered you during your regular studies. Alternatively, try to frame a question from a point that has interested you. Whatever method you choose to decide on your research topic, begin at the point that you are most comfortable with. This may be the reading stage, or the reference collecting stage or the material gathering stage.

Thesis subjects are difficult to come by but once you have arrived at one you must try to do justice to the topic. To do this the topic has to be well researched and an unbiased outlook has to be presented. The opposite view cannot be wished away or ignored.
