Thesis Statement – Things You Need to Know
Writing your dissertation will always require the creation of a thesis statement. In a research proposal, the thesis statement serves as the “proposed” idea. This is also the main goal of discussion. Today, we would like to introduce some tips how to build a thesis statement in writing a dissertation.
1. The thesis statement should first identify the real goal of the writer. There are at least three major purposes; Analytical, Expository and Argumentative. Depending on your goal, you may need to modify your thesis statement to accommodate such intention of writing about a topic.
2. When you write a thesis statement, the sentence idea should be very specific. Avoid making the idea too general because your main intention to write a dissertation is to resolve a problem or question at hand. Therefore, a thesis statement should have a single direction of researching.
3. In writing the thesis statement, you can put it at the very last part of the introductory paragraph. Usually, students do this to finalize an introduction that first sets the stage for background discussions. The thesis statement then finalizes such a presentation which will open the way for the research process.
4. One more thing to consider is in the aspects of modifications and revisions. When you are about to write your whole research paper, your line of thoughts and intention may suddenly change for the better. That is why you can always modify your thesis statement while you are writing the paper to accommodate your true intention of writing.
