Dissertation Format – Citations
We are already sure about the dissertation format when it comes to including all the necessary chapters. However, there is another side to the concept of “format” that we would like to talk about. The citation systems in writing are also important that it should be used according to the right formatting styles as it is supposed to be. APA – It stand for American Psychological Association. The format was initially structured to help the researchers of health care institutions to conduct researches with a defined system of writing especially when it comes to referencing other works. Usually, you may see this format used by masters thesis sample files or in a PhD thesis body segment. However, even undergraduate students can always utilize it for their research paper writing tasks. The examples are the following when it comes to pagination, in-text citation and bibliography page:
+Pagination: (Title of your work) (page number) e.g. Lucas 56
+In text Citation: “Phrase (Author’s last name, publication date) e.g. “We are not alone in this universe.” (Roosevelt, 1977).
+Bibliography Entry (books): e.g. Jacobs, Stanley (1899). The Merchant. Oxford: Meteor.
MLA – Stands for Modern Language Association. This is usually used for research papers that are related to humanities, arts and social science topics. The following samples are written below:
+Pagination: (YOUR LAST NAME) (page number) e.g. Matthews 90
+In text Citation: “Phrase (Author’s last name page number) e.g. “The Sun will explode by year 5555.” (Andrews 45).
+Bibliography Entry (books): e.g. Sullivan, Oliver. The Planets. 2. New York: Mercantile, 1988.
