Dissertation Introduction

You find yourself sitting in front of your desktop ready to get your fingers working on your dissertation. You have finally mustered the courage to face up to such a daunting task. After all, your time for useless procrastinations is up. Then you suddenly ask yourself a very important question (at least for the moment)—What should I include in my dissertation introduction?

A good introduction goes straight to pointing out the main problem. You want your writing clear and concise. There is no need for adding beginning sentences. This basically amounts to less flowery words. Now you don’t have to try hard to be creative or inventive (at least in the writing part). But don’t breathe your sigh of relief just yet. Much as you don’t need creative writing skills, you will need all the skills and competence in the conduct of research. And you actually have to sound the part. Keep in mind that you have to convince a committee consisting of members who are experts in the field. You have to sound as credible as possible.

Other things you can include are the following: the significance of the study, a summary of the methodology used, definition of terms, and a short summary—pretty much like your ordinary thesis. But this description of what your introducing part should consist is broad and general. Take note that requirements usually vary among different universities. The key is to find out what your university expects to see in your thesis. Be very meticulous with details.

You can start by looking into papers already approved by your university. Check for the components included in the introductive part. Be especially observant of the research methodologies they use. More importantly, do not hesitate to ask for a detailed instruction from your adviser.

An important reminder—always keep in mind that the trend in dissertation writing nowadays is making it shorter and concise. Your introduction part should follow suit.

But writing your introduction is really the least of your problems. Especially if you have a well planned thesis project in place. Your plan should put everything under control that writing your introduction becomes a breeze. It will also be helpful if you are genuinely interested in your topic. You know how it is when you are really into what you’re writing. You can go on and on that you find it hard to stop, until trying to stick to a shorter content requirement becomes a problem.

Something you should be worried about is your funding. Be sure you have a clear picture of the research materials and equipments your paper will require. You may need a scholarship grant to cover the costs. You have to know though that dissertation scholarships are not easy to come by and preparations should be made a year or so ahead of time. Once you have your scholarship and project in place, you won’t have to be one of the many stressed out walking zombies in your university.

Writing a Dissertation

A dissertation just made for you is based on the exact requirements and subject of your choice. Custom dissertation papers are tailor-fitted to the needs of the candidate. Candidates who have procrastinated their writing should go for custom-written assignments. This is one sound writing advice.

Many candidates for doctorate degrees do not have the time to do many things at once. It takes them a long time to come up with something to write. Hectic schedules also leave them with no options; also taken into account is the fact that the project cannot be done hurriedly.

Students are aware that when they write their college/university paper content they should give it enough time. They know too that the work entails careful editing and review. With these in mind, more students are turning to custom documents to facilitate the completion of their assignments ahead of schedule. Thus there is the popularity of writing assignment orders nowadays.

When a professional writer is hired, he will discuss the paper with the student. The discussion will be an extensive one as he will make sure that he has all the details and requirements down to pat. Professionals of this caliber cannot afford to give a sloppy output. They value their reputations as well. When the writing procedure begins, it is understood that the student has his responsibilities to carry out.

The writer stays in contact with the student throughout the development of the paper. Your problems are also the problems of the experts. Thesis and Dissertation Tips

Thesis and dissertation have similar meanings and can be used interchangeably, independently and/or in combination with each other. Taken in a more technical perspective, thesis dissertation, used as such, could mean an in-depth exploration of one or the other.

Thesis, taken in the context of/or hypothetically used as a verb, may mean an investigation or a research founded on critical evaluation of another academic paper, e.g. a psychology dissertation, as a springboard, putting a new light on arguments in defense of or contrary to theories and principles put forth in the original paper.

Writing such paper in the context of the preceding paragraph, has to be more challenging than writing an original essay. Although more focused in terms of subject, it is quite limiting and touchy in the sense that its purpose is to prove, or more so, to disprove the ideas or arguments of an existing or earlier published thesis. It becomes an “antithesis” of the original work and may therefore “rock the boat” in the research community by questioning an accepted and established concept or principle, in an approach that may be abrasive to those who are in the belief, judgment and opinion aligned with that of the original researcher/writer. Even with a direction or premise not directly opposed but with a concept or notion that departs even very slightly from the original path of argument, judgment or opinion put forth in the original paper, the antithesis writer still takes on the character of the villain in the research playhouse.

The writer has to be strong-willed and armed with voluminous material, having thoroughly gone through every bit of data and information available including, if possible, research materials used by the writer of the original thesis. In the same manner writers have to have advisors, the writer of an antithesis has to have allies, both in and outside the research community. His write-up has to be backed with enough written and published material, other structures and phenomenal tangible evidences of his claims and arguments.

Such is the ideal environment for a writer to plunge into an undertaking as demanding as writing a dissertation in the fashion as described in the preceding paragraphs. Absence of one or more of the elements mentioned above may yield catastrophic results and may make even a fallback career shift impossible. In all probability, writing an antithesis leads to a career disaster.

Based on the above premises, one can conclude that writing an antithesis requires more than the preparedness and logistics of writing an original thesis. It will be wise, for the average student or researcher, to restrain himself from formally introducing an antithesis such as described above, if the environment is not favorable for such an undertaking, both in terms of the writer’s internal attributes, and in the external factors that normally affect and/or relate to writing a paper as challenging and demanding as an antithesis. Brave is the one who dares.

Writing a Thesis Paper

Thesis is Greek to most students who are about to or have just entered college. The word becomes more familiar as students advance in their college courses, as some collegiate degrees such as those falling under arts and sciences – require writing a thesis paper, aside from passing written and oral (viva voce) examinations before they qualify for graduation.

For those who have not yet experienced writing such assignment, it would seem like any other academic assignment or task that requires just a little reading in order to be prepared when quiz time comes. Unknown to most, especially those who have not, and may never see a chance to write a formal dissertation, the project requires not only long hours of research and interviews but also a lot of determination and imagination. Almost all, if not all of one’s previous academic and non-academic experiences and exposures, are applied in writing the paper. He has to consistently and persistently consult with his professors and tutors in order to be guided on the methods, styles and what-nots of developing the dissertation paper.

Aside from consulting with the faculty in his college, e.g., the Psychology Department if one is developing or writing a psychology dissertation, he also has to seek the assistance of specialization consultants such as a high-caliber English language professor for grammar and writing style. He has to find the balance in the relevance of writing style and grammatical inputs of the consultant from the (English) language department, and the technical requirements set by the faculty instructing and/or supervising the writing of the academic essays. The finished product should not only enlighten but should also be an interesting and compelling read.

The student must always remember that thesis is a requirement of his Collegiate Department in order for him to qualify for graduation. The average student normally limits himself to the confines of the academe in researching for his paper and forgets that it is in the government, commercial and industrial sectors that his theories and principles are widely applied and practiced. The academe is the learning and experimentation microcosm that formally awards and recognizes technical and professional degrees or licenses. But the wider-environment sectors and structures outside of the colleges and universities are both the source and recipient of new and experimental knowledge on the one hand; and of proven theories, laws and qualified graduates to man the human resource machinery that runs the earth, on the other hand.

All bodies of knowledge, whether college – or university-based, or those that emanate from the formal and informal sectors and structures outside of the academe, should become important parts of the considerations of the student or researcher when writing the formal thesis paper or any other project that he embarks on. Man is the only creature with the capacity to acquire so much knowledge. He organized and formalized this knowledge into degrees in colleges and universities he established to further his learning. Should he not be thankful for that?
